Ten years ago, non-profit leaders from across DC realized that a strong alliance was needed to stand up for our District’s young people. Local public policies were ignoring the needs ofyoung people, DC youth-focused research was nearly nonexistent, and opportunities for collaboration amongst youth-service providers were limited. These leaders wanted to live in a city which respected young people and supported their potential.
From this vision, a city-wide coalition was founded: DC Alliance of Youth Advocates.
A decade later, we are continually working to fulfill our founder’s mission, and build a truly Youth-Friendly DC. Over the past ten years, DCAYA has formed a community of best practice, published nationally acclaimed research, and helped pass ground-breaking legislation. On September 26th, we will share with you stories of the lives touched by our advocacy. From a young mother discovering that second chances are possible, to a program provider’s fight to ensure every child has a safe home. Spend an evening with youth advocates and discover how as a community, we can build a bright future for DC youth.
Come be a part of our story!
